Project description

Living with Dementia

Dementia is the most common neurodegenerative mental disease among elderly therefor it is not a coincidence it has an important place within a Resolution on the mental health in the Republic of Slovenia 2014-2018, which is in making.

Complex social and economic impacts of growing share of elderly persons and dementia patients require fast-track actions and searching for most suitable ways to manage and treat issues of such kind. There are very few researches in relation to dementia in Slovenia, especially those in which needs for services and other forms of support to persons living with dementia in their own environment would be recorded together with users and their relatives.

The project wishes to get as close to the needs of persons with dementia and their relatives as possible by adjusting existent services and developing new ones, at the same time it introduces a pilot multidisciplinary treatment by establishing the Centre for support with dementia. We are convinced that the centre will offer one of the positive practices, since it will provide support to people living with dementia, their carers and next-of-kin in once place. The centre will provide support in form of counselling by various professionals, information on services and other support, education, various workshops and trainings, self-help groups and a network of qualified volunteers (especially for people with dementia and for cooperation with their relatives).
